Our Expedition Departs ‘On the Road to Mandalay’
“On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!”
—Rudyard Kipling, ‘Mandalay’, 1919
On the Road to Mandalay
Our expedition team has embarked on the first leg of the journey! The Minnesota group arrived in Los Angeles yesterday and boarded the flight to Yangon last night. Our Texan group was unable to make a connecting flight due to weather and is delayed in departure for two days. We will travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday morning to board a flight to Yangon the same night.
The Minnesota group should arrive in Yangon around 10:30am on Wednesday (Myanmar Standard Time UTC+06:30) and will meet with our Burmese contact Naing Thang. He is the Director of Religious Liberty Commission under Commission of Myanmar Evangelical Christian Fellowship in Yangon. He will act as our guide during our stay in Yangon.
Our Texan team members are scheduled to arrive in Yangon on Friday at 4:35pm (Myanmar Standard Time). They will meet up with the rest of the team there before departure to Mandalay on an overnight bus.
The weather in Yangon is rainy and in the high 90°s. Our team has done our best to prepare for these conditions and would appreciate prayer that the weather will not cause travel delays throughout our journey.
As we depart on the road to Mandalay, we walk in faith and trust that the Lord will go before us to prepare the way for our mission. Please pray that the hearts of those we come in contact with will be receptive to the gospel and the truth we proclaim as we travel throughout Burma. We have already heard from many of you, our friends and family, that you are continually praying for our expedition and I trust that the Lord will be with us and shelter us from the attacks of the enemy. He is our strength and shield.
