Preparing for Burma on a Stratovolcano and Glaciers

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’” —Isaiah 52:7

Team Leadership, Risk, and Manhood

This week I returned from an exciting adventure in the Cascade Mountain Range of northwest Washington. I was honored to be selected by HJS Team Leader Austin Collins as part of a group of men participating in a training and filming mission on Mt. Rainier, in order to help his preparations in leading his upcoming expedition to Nepal.

I traveled as a cinematographer and was able to participate in a well-organized team which had great unity, efficiency, and was managed by an unquestionably qualified leader. The opportunity which I had to be part of such an excellent team will be of great service to me as I lead my own team to Burma this July.

On the trip, our team was exposed to many risks and dangers, including, frigid temperatures, penetrating winds reaching nearly 70 MPH, possible dehydration, successive avalanches, deep crevasses, and physical exhaustion. Through all of this the Lord was gracious to bring us to a safe conclusion and to complete the mission successfully.

This adventure provided me the opportunity to challenge myself and trust in the Lord for strength and endurance to press on. It was delightful to engage in a mission objective with a kingdom-building purpose, united with men who embrace a biblical view of manhood and who would encourage me along the way.

May we each be willing to embrace the difficult tasks set before us with a faithful reliance upon the Lord.

Our course be onward still,
Kurtis Amundson,
HJS Team Leader
